Volleyball Preview: Horizon Hawks vs. Mead Mavericks

The Horizon Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Mead Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Horizon took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They skirted past Longmont 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Horizon was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (108-103), but they still managed to win. After all that action, the final score was 25-21, 14-25, 23-25, 25-23, 16-14.

Horizon relied on the efforts of Sarah Vaness, who had 29 digs, and Reese Hudson, who had ten digs and six aces. Hudson is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Annalee Young, who had eight digs and 14 assists.

Horizon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2023.

Meanwhile, Mead posted their biggest win since November 4, 2023 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Centaurus with a sharp 3-0 victory.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-18, 25-16.

Horizon's record is now 2-5. As for Mead, their record now sits at 3-4.
