Baseball Recap: Westerly Comes Up Short

Westerly extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 4-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Narragansett Mariners. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mariners apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Narragansett, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 13th.

For Narragansett's part, the result came thanks to Aidan Clancey's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks. Clancey has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Narragansett saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Downey, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Downey has hit this season.

Looking ahead, Westerly will be playing in front of their home fans against Chariho at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Narragansett, they will head out to challenge Rogers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
