Football Game Preview: Currituck County Knights vs. First Flight Nighthawks

The Currituck County Knights will square off against the First Flight Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. First Flight took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Currituck County, who comes in off a win.

Currituck County took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Pasquotank County 34-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since September 26, 2024.

Currituck County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamie Dance led the charge by throwing for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 43 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Luka Britt, who gained 100 total yards and a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Currituck County proved: they limited Pasquotank County to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The Knights' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.7.

Meanwhile, First Flight was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. The game between the Nighthawks and Hertford County didn't end well, with the Nighthawks falling 30-14.

Currituck County pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for First Flight, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Everything came up roses for Currituck County against First Flight in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 52-20 win. In that matchup, the Knights amassed a halftime lead of 31-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
