Baseball Recap: Barbers Hill Wins Going Away Against Sterling

Barbers Hill won the last time they faced Sterling and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 9-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Bridger Thomas looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Barbers Hill got a massive performance out of Ryan Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Ponder, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Barbers Hill pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Sterling, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barbers Hill will challenge Angleton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 1.9, the Wildcats 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sterling, they will take on La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Rangers surely won't give up without a fight.
