Softball Game Recap: North Greene Spartans vs. Beardstown Tigers

North Greene extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to the Beardstown Tigers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 17-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Beardstown, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-7. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Beardstown's part, Shelby Goodrich was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Goodrich posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Maltby, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Bella Palmer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, North Greene will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Staunton at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Beardstown, they will head out to challenge Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
