Basketball Game Preview: Rise Academy Guardians vs. Legacy Academy

The Rise Academy Guardians will square off against Legacy Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Rise Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

If Rise Academy beats Legacy Academy with 70 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Rise Academy pulled ahead with a 70-69 photo finish over Harrisonburg HomeSchool last Thursday.

Rise Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevonte Atkins, who posted 20 points along with five assists and five boards. The contest was Atkins' fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Seaborn, who earned 20 points and seven rebounds.

Atkins wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Rise Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now posted at least 23 assists in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Legacy Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-58 heartbreaker at the hands of Collegiate.

Rise Academy's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points over those games. As for Legacy Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Rise Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Legacy Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 88-81. Will Rise Academy repeat their success, or does Legacy Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
