Baseball Game Preview: Cherryville Ironmen vs. Burns Bulldogs

Cherryville is 2-8 against Burns since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ironmen will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Cherryville's victory against West Lincoln wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ironmen had just enough and edged out the Rebels 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Ironmen in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won three in a row.

Camden Williams tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Talon Dalton and Brock Bumgardner did most of the damage at the plate: Dalton went 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI, while Bumgardner' scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Burns came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Ironmen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 4, 2024.

Burns pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Cherryville, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
