Baseball Game Preview: Walter Johnson Wildcats vs. Blair Blazers

The Walter Johnson Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Blair Blazers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Walter Johnson's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Blair's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, neither Walter Johnson nor Whitman could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Blair had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Cavaliers 11-4.

Jacob Wright and Aidan Carle did most of the damage at the plate: Wright went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Carle scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Those runs marked the first that Wright scored this season. Rafi Shore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Walter Johnson's draw gives them a new season record of 5-2-1. As for Blair, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Walter Johnson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Blair struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Walter Johnson couldn't quite finish off Blair in their previous matchup on Monday and fell 7-5. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
