Soccer Game Preview: Bishop Amat vs. Walnut

The Bishop Amat Lancers will square off against the Walnut Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Amat is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Walnut better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Bishop Amat really get things going. Bishop Amat never let Covina onto the board and left with a 4-0 win on Monday. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by three goals or more this season.

They hit Covina with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Noah Guillen (2), Maximus Ugalde, and Sebastian Saucedo.

Meanwhile, Walnut entered their matchup against Claremont two weeks ago without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Walnut took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Claremont. Having soared to a lofty nine goals in the game before, the Mustangs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Walnut was without their leading scorer, Oscar Feria, in Thursday's game. With Feria sitting this one out, Frank Tang got some extra time on the pitch (80 vs. his season average of 51.2).

Bishop Amat's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those seven contests. As for Walnut, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1-2.

Bishop Amat took their win against Walnut in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 by a conclusive 3-0. Will Bishop Amat repeat their success, or does Walnut have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
