Basketball Recap: Archbishop Carroll Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Dematha

Archbishop Carroll is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of DeMatha. The Archbishop Carroll Lions lost 74-52 to the DeMatha Stags. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-60 back in December of 2024.

Ashton (Ace) Meeks was his usual excellent self, going 9 for 19 on his way to 26 points for DeMatha. Jacob Wallace was another key player, putting up six points in addition to nine rebounds and six assists.

Archbishop Carroll has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for DeMatha, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Archbishop Carroll will take on St. John's at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in St. John's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for DeMatha, they will face off against St. Mary's Ryken at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in DeMatha's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while St. Mary's Ryken has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
