Softball Recap: South Newton Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for South Newton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Frontier Falcons on Thursday. The Rebels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Briley Iseminger made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lizzie Corbett, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Faye Springsteen was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

South Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Newton's record now sits at 8-9. As for Frontier, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

South Newton has already played their next match (against North White), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Frontier, they will be playing at home against Benton Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.62 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
