League recap: Paradise's league-best three wins lead to standings climb

Eastern league recap: 3/13/13

Top honors in the league this week go to Paradise, which finished with three wins overall, good for best in the league. The Bobcats beat Winters 12-6, Modoc 17-1 and Colusa 8-4.

Chico made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fourth to second place in Eastern thanks to a 2-1 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Las Plumas fell hardest in the standings, dropping from third all the way to fifth place after going 0-3 in the past week. Pleasant Valley (5-1) is the No. 1 team in the league.

Paradise boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Chico scored 44 runs this week to lead the league, but the Bobcats are tops in runs scored this year, with 60.

There were six hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. They were led by Johnny Porter, who hit .800 this week (8-for-10).

Kenny Bengson has set a torrid offensive pace for Paradise, and is first in the league in average, hits and runs batted in. This season Bengson has feasted on opponents pitching with a .519 average and 14 RBIs thanks to 14 hits.



Clayton Schuler was an RBI machine on Saturday, as he knocked in four runs during Chico's 10-9 win over Enterprise. He went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.

Sutter Wyatt struck out 11 in the Bobcats' 17-1 win over the Braves on March 9. Over his five innings pitched he allowed one run on two hits.
