Soccer Game Preview: Layton vs. Weber

Layton hasn't had much luck against Weber recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lancers will look to defend their home pitch against the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Layton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Farmington, who was ranked ninth at the time (Layton was ranked 24th). The Lancers fell just short of the Phoenix by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The matchup was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Layton couldn't quite close it out.

Meanwhile, Weber came into Wednesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their defense stepped up to hand Syracuse a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. Weber's winning goal came courtesy of Tate Johnstun.

Weber's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Layton beat Weber by a goal in their previous meeting back in March, winning 1-0. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
