Baseball Recap: Winchendon Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Winchendon can now relate to. They fell 4-0 to the Hopkins Hilltoppers on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Wapiti's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Winchendon got a good showing from Jack Cronin, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Cronin has allowed since back in April.

At the plate, Winchendon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Loos, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Brian Murray also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Winchendon's defeat dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Hopkins, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Winchendon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hopkins, they will face off against Hamden Hall Country Day at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Hilltoppers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
