Marquette was the 2-0 winner over Somonauk when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Crusaders fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Crusaders' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Marquette sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-18.

Marquette's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Somonauk, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2.

Marquette and Somonauk could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Crusaders (ranked 352nd) will meet Henry-Senachwine (ranked 131st) at 5:00 p.m. on October 2. Meanwhile, Somonauk will challenge Newark at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (276 vs. 88).
