Basketball Recap: Monessen Comes Up Short

Monessen fought the good fight in their overtime match against Geibel Catholic on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to the Geibel Catholic Gators. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (67), the Greyhounds still had to take the loss.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Geibel Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Evan Strimel, who went 10 for 13 en route to 25 points and six boards. Strimel's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Gary Tarbuk, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Monessen's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Geibel Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

Coming up, Monessen and Washington will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Geibel Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
