Recap: Cape Hatteras Hurricanes vs. Croatan Cougars
On Friday, it was close, but Cape Hatteras sidestepped Croatan for a 31-28 victory. Given Cape Hatteras' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Croatan is ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cape Hatteras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kylie Philips led the charge by scoring 9 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Philips has scored at least 25% of Cape Hatteras' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Fairbanks, who scored 8 points along with 10 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Croatan had strong showings from Hannah Buchan, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Landry Clifton, who scored 10 points. Neely McMannen was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 6 rebounds.
The win got Cape Hatteras back to even at 3-3. As for Croatan, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
