Baseball Recap: San Clemente Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but San Clemente ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Trabuco Hills Mustangs 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Tritons: when they faced off against the Mustangs on Tuesday, they had to take a 8-1 defeat.

Landon Wargnier got the start for San Clemente and what a start it was: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Those six strikeouts gave Wargnier a new career-high.

At the plate, San Clemente saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joaquim Baumgardner, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Barrett Wood was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

San Clemente's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Trabuco Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

San Clemente will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
