Softball Game Preview: Lincoln Mustangs vs. Lowell Cardinals

Lincoln is 0-4 against Lowell since March of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lincoln took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Burton get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Pumas: they've now won four in a row.

Ventura Van-Zandt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anjali Evans, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brienna Tsui was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .828. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lowell got the win against El Camino on Saturday by a conclusive 16-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.

Lincoln's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lowell, their record now sits at 8-5.

Lincoln suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Lowell when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
