Football Recap: Mount Vernon Comes Up Short

Mount Vernon lost against Atlanta back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Tigers took a 22-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rabbits. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Vernon lost, don't look at Dawson Witherspoon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Witherspoon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 162 every time he's taken the field this season.

Jayden Riley produced another solid effort rushing for 202 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 68 receiving yards for Atlanta. Riley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards.

Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Atlanta, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Mount Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 57-20 win against Mineola on the 26th. As for Atlanta, they have also already played their next game, a 39-14 victory against White Oak on the 26th.
