The Union Catholic Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Elizabeth Minutemen at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Union Catholic will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
On Friday, Union Catholic made easy work of Bayonne and carried off a 12-5 victory.
Greg Viloria was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Morrison, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Union Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth got the win against Oratory Prep on Friday by a conclusive 7-1. The Minutemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Eliezer Cepeda made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Cepeda was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Elizabeth let Jaime Tamayo and Ian Acevedo run wild. Tamayo got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Acevedo got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Albert Maldonado also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Union Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Elizabeth, their record is now 14-4.
Union Catholic skirted past Elizabeth 4-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Minutemen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
