The Byers Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Yuma Outlaws at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Byers is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Byers' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Fort Lupton as they made off with a 14-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Byers got a massive performance out of Jack Earl, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Earl has posted since back in March. Carson Gaudot also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Byers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Two must be Yuma's lucky number: they beat Burlington with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Outlaws didn't even let the Cougars on the board, marking the Outlaws' second-straight 2-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Outlaws.
Lennox Huwa was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Pensado, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Byers' record is now 10-8. As for Yuma, their record now sits at 14-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Byers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yuma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Byers' way against Yuma when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Byers made off with a 14-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
