Softball Game Preview: Boaz Pirates vs. Crossville Lions

Boaz has gone 9-1 against Crossville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Boaz Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Crossville Lions at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Boaz has three straight wins, Crossville has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Boaz proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Fort Payne, sneaking past 4-2.

Grier Maples spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Boaz's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addison Hardin, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Hardin also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Boaz hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Crossville came up short against Ider on Monday, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly ten runs.

Boaz's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Crossville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything went Boaz's way against Crossville in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as Boaz made off with a 22-4 victory. Does Boaz have another victory up their sleeve, or will Crossville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
