Baseball Recap: Mount Sinai Starts off Right with Win over Miller Place

Mount Sinai had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Miller Place Panthers by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jake Zabbara tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shawn Flannery, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Chin, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Miller Place and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Mount Sinai will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
