Recap: Bruce Trojans vs. South Pontotoc Cougars
The Bruce Trojans lost against the South Pontotoc Cougars back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Bruce fell 37-29 to South Pontotoc. Bruce has not had much luck with South Pontotoc recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Bruce saw an underclassman step up: Laken Corbitt scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Corbitt scored a full 41.4% of Bruce's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Bruce struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bruce has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for South Pontotoc, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bruce will take on Water Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Pontotoc will be home for the holidays to greet North Pontotoc at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (North Pontotoc is ranked 43rd, while South Pontotoc is ranked 48th).
