Preview: Kelly Hawks vs. Caruthersville Tigers
Kelly is 0-5 against Caruthersville since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Kelly Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Caruthersville Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
Kelly fell victim to Ste. Genevieve's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 35-0 loss at the hands of the Dragons. While losing is never fun, Kelly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Ste. Genevieve is ranked 108th).
Despite the defeat, Kelly got a solid performance out of Reece Eftink, who rushed for 134 yards while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Caruthersville entered their tilt with Hayti with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Caruthersville didn't even let Hayti onto the board and left with a 54-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for Caruthersville, who have now won four matches by 33 points or more so far this season.
This is the second loss in a row for Kelly and nudges their season record down to 7-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Portageville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.1% over those games). As for Caruthersville, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3.
Kelly took a serious blow against Caruthersville in their previous matchup back in October of 2016, falling 71-0. Can Kelly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
