Basketball Recap: Monterey Comes Up Short

If Monterey was riding high fresh off their 75-42 takedown of Boyd Christian on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats took a 64-50 bruising from the Watertown Purple Tigers on Monday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Purple Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Monterey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tanner Brown posted eight points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Brown. Xavier Phillips was another key player, putting up eight points.

Monterey's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Watertown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Monterey and Boyd Christian will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. As for Watertown, they will host Gordonsville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
