Recap: Williamsburg Christian Academy Eagles vs. Bruton Panthers
After a string of three wins, the Williamsburg Christian Academy Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 65-48 bruising from Bruton. While losing is never fun, Williamsburg Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Bruton is ranked 78th).
Despite the loss, Williamsburg Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Legend Bunch scored 21 points. The matchup was Bunch's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Sheppard, who scored ten points.
Bruton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kareem Davis led the charge by scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Brandon Freeman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Williamsburg Christian Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Bruton, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Williamsburg Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Walsingham Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Walsingham Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 24. Bruton will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Jamestown at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Jamestown is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
