While Palo Verde Valley's victory against Holtville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Palo Verde Valley narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Holtville 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Yellow Jackets sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Drew Wright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Palo Verde Valley's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Christian Aguilar, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Palo Verde Valley pushed their record up to 9-2-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Holtville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palo Verde Valley will venture away from home to face off against Imperial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Holtville, they will take on Vista in a tournament on Monday. Vista's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Holtville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
