Baseball Recap: Soper Comes Up Short

If Soper was feeling good fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Clayton on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bears took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Smithville Braves on Friday. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Dallin Gilbert was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Soper now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Smithville, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Soper will square off against Antlers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Smithville, they will challenge Thomas-Fay-Custer at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
