Baseball Recap: Mohawk Comes Up Short

Mohawk extended their losing streak to 15 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They lost 15-1 to the Central Linn Cobras. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cobras this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 on Tuesday.

As for Central Linn, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Central Linn's part, Jacob Helms was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Central Linn is 2-1 when Helms allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Helms was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Trevon Nofziger was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Central Linn: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Thomas Thornton was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
