Softball Game Preview: Wasco Tigers vs. Taft Wildcats

For the second straight game, Wasco will face off against Taft. The Tigers will face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wasco will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Wasco took on Taft on Tuesday. The Tigers walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 7, 2022.

Cedes Saldana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Abby Salazar was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Sienna Lugo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Salazar wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Wasco lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Wasco's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-7-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Taft, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wasco hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
