Softball Game Preview: Rising Sun Shiners vs. South Dearborn Knights

The Rising Sun Shiners will head out to face off against the South Dearborn Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rising Sun has three straight wins, South Dearborn has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Rising Sun's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past South Ripley 6-0.

Emily Oatman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tamryn Miller, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Works, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, South Dearborn came up short against Greensburg on Saturday, falling 11-1.

Rising Sun pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for South Dearborn, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Rising Sun was able to grind out a solid victory over South Dearborn in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shiners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
