Football Game Preview: Ganado Indians vs. Kenedy Lions

Ganado is a perfect 5-0 against Kenedy since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Indians will welcome the Lions at 7:30 p.m. Ganado will be strutting in after a win while Kenedy will be coming in after a defeat.

Ganado's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Flatonia 46-0. That looming 46-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.

It was another big night for Logan Bures, who rushed for 214 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in November of 2024. Landyn Arriaga was another key player, throwing for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 88.2% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ganado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 323 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Kenedy lost 47-26 to Schulenburg on Friday. The game marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Ganado will have to contain David Salas as he made an impact in Kenedy's last game. He rushed for 170 yards and two scores. With that strong performance, Salas is now averaging an impressive 111.4 rushing yards per game.

Having lost for the first time this season, Kenedy fell to 4-1. As for Ganado, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-1.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ganado has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 247.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kenedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 256.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Ganado against Kenedy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 35-0 win. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
