Baseball Recap: Fairfield Find Success

After losing to Salem the last time they met, Fairfield decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Mules came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mules.

Caleb King was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse King, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tallen Hixenbaugh, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fairfield's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Salem, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Fairfield will be playing at home against Hamilton County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Salem, they will head out on the road to take on East Alton-Wood River at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Oilers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.47 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
