Volleyball Recap: Nevada Union Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Nevada Union proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Woodcreek Timberwolves, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Miners have posted since April 23, 2024.

Nevada Union had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-9, 16-14.

Wyatt Fowler paced Nevada Union's offense, picking up 18 kills. Fowler got some help from Kody Cornish and his 34 assists. Finally, Logan Mackey kept Nevada Union's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Levi Black and Jacob Smith certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Black had 11 digs and three aces, while Smith had 17 assists and 14 digs. Those 11 digs gave Black a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Turnbull, who had nine digs and two assists.

Nevada Union is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Woodcreek's record is now 9-6.

Nevada Union didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning on the 22nd. As for Woodcreek, they will take on Ponderosa at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
