Softball Recap: Cornell Raiders vs. Union Area Scotties

Cornell extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the Union Area Scotties, falling 17-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scotties this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 two weeks ago.

As for Union Area, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

For Union Area's part, Korynne Shannon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Shannon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Union Area got a massive performance out of Maggie Joseph, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Joseph has posted since back in April of 2025. Olivia Williams was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornell will venture away from home to face off against Sewickley Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Union Area, they will face off against West Middlesex at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
