Basketball Game Preview: Coventry Comets vs. Mogadore Wildcats

The Coventry Comets and the Mogadore Wildcats will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Coventry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season.

Coventry is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Ellet just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orangemen. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Comets came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Orangemen are ranked 393rd).

Kameryn Kennerly put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reggie Edwards, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Coventry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Mogadore came into Saturday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 65-55 win over Southeast on Saturday.

The victory got Mogadore back to even at 3-3. As for Coventry, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.

Coventry came up short against Mogadore in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 60-52. Can Coventry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
