Baseball Recap: Brighton Drops Season-High Score on Northglenn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brighton). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Northglenn Norsemen an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-0 back in April.

Nolan Engle made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Waltemath, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Brighton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 7-8 otherwise. Blake George was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Brighton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in five consecutive contests.

Brighton's record now sits at 11-8. As for Northglenn, they dropped their record down to 7-14 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Coming up, Brighton will square off against Boulder at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Northglenn, they will challenge Mountain Range at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Norsemen are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
