Basketball Game Preview: Lovington Wildcats vs. Portales Rams

The Lovington Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Portales Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Lovington strolled past Goddard with points to spare, taking the game 78-61.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Portales over Artesia in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Portales blew past Artesia 57-32. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Lovington pushed their record up to 13-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Portales, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.

Lovington didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Portales when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 50-46 victory. Will Lovington repeat their success, or does Portales have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
