Football Game Preview: Whitwell Tigers vs. Midway Green Wave

The Whitwell Tigers will take on the Midway Green Wave at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitwell faced off against Copper Basin on Friday. The Tigers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 49-14. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitwell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brody Harvey, who rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Harvey's longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Wesley Levan, who rushed for 68 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Whitwell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 239 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midway). They strolled past Harriman with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-34. The Green Wave pushed the score to 35-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Blue Devils cut but never quite recovered from.

The win got Midway back to even at 3-3. As for Whitwell, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
