Softball Recap: Newark Catholic Gets the Win

Newark Catholic won the last time they faced Bishop Hartley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Green Wave walked away with a 6-1 win over the Hawks.

Veronica Bailey 2026 made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Joanna Snider 2027 and Joanna Bailey 2026 did most of the damage at the plate: Snider 2027 went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Joanna went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Snider 2027 has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Kurtz 2027, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Newark Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Newark Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Bishop Hartley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Newark Catholic will face off against Centennial at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bishop Hartley will be paying especially close attention to the Green Wave's contest: after the Green Wave face off against the Stars, they'll take on Bishop Hartley again at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
