Basketball Game Preview: Flagler Panthers vs. Burlington Cougars

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Flagler Panthers take on the Burlington Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday... The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Flagler has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Burlington will arrive with six straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Flagler ended up a good deal behind Idalia and lost 58-42.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Lexi Witt, who posted 12 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydnie Berry, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Flagler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Burlington was fully in charge on Wednesday, breezing past Calhan 61-21. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Burlington's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Flagler, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Flagler took a serious blow against Burlington when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 73-41. Thankfully for Flagler, Trinitee Holmes (who went 9 of 13 on her way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
