Basketball Game Preview: Central Plains Oilers vs. Russell Broncos

The Central Plains Oilers will head out on the road to take on the Russell Broncos at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, everything went Central Plains' way against Phillipsburg as Central Plains made off with a 55-34 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Oilers.

Meanwhile, it looked like the Kentucky Derby when Russell faced off against Sylvan-Lucas on Tuesday. Russell came out on top against Sylvan-Lucas by a score of 66-59.

Central Plains better keep an eye on Ayden Wagner. He was instrumental in Russell's win, going 8 for 11 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wagner a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Mooney, who posted 11 points along with five assists and five boards.

Central Plains' win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.8 points. As for Russell, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Central Plains was dealt a bruising 69-26 defeat at the hands of Russell in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Central Plains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
