Volleyball Recap: Athens' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

It was a good run, but Athens unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-match winning streak on Monday. They fell 2-0 to the Pleasant Plains Cardinals. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Athens was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-22.

Lydia Hart paced Athens' offense, picking up ten kills. Hart got some help from Arabelle Cunningham and her 17 assists.

Leading Pleasant Plains to victory were Kendal Guthrie and Emma Sabatka. Guthrie had 11 digs and three assists, while Sabatka had ten digs and ten assists. What's more, Sabatka posted two kills, the most she's had since back in October of 2024.

Athens' loss dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Pleasant Plains, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Athens has already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Maroa-Forsyth on the 30th. As for Pleasant Plains, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Williamsville on the 30th.
