Basketball Recap: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Southside Seahawks

The Lejeune Devil Pups's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 63-38 walloping at the hands of Southside. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lejeune in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now lost five in a row.

Loss or not, Lejeune got some senior leadership from Shyanne Bryant and Abigail Gonzales. Bryant almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals, while Gonzales. scored 14 points along with five steals and two blocks. That was a full 36.8% of Lejeune's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Scarlett McLean was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five steals and two blocks.

Lejeune struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Southside posted 11 assists.

Lejeune's defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Southside, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
