Softball Recap: Strafford Comes Up Short

Strafford extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-12. They came up short against the Fair Grove Eagles, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Indians have lost by exactly ten runs.

Strafford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaelyn Rhodes, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Rhodes has hit this season.

As for Fair Grove, their record now sits at 13-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

On Fair Grove's side, Aubrie Voorhis made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Voorhis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Fair Grove let Shayla Haddock and Charli Stokes run wild. Haddock went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Stokes went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Stokes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Boatwright, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Strafford will face off against Plato at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fair Grove, they will square off against Springfield Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Irish will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
