The Sanderson Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Holly Springs Golden Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sanderson will be strutting in after a win while Holly Springs will be coming in after a loss.
On Monday, Sanderson got the win against East Wake by a conclusive 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Sanderson got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-22, 35-21.
Mireya Chavez had an outrageously good game as she had 22 digs and four aces. What's more, she posted two assists, the most she's had since back in September. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Roche, who had 14 digs and one assist.
They weren't the only good servers: Sanderson was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They are 6-1 when they serve at least ten aces.
Meanwhile, Holly Springs lost 3-0 to Cardinal Gibbons on Thursday.
While Holly Springs was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-26, 25-21, 25-20.
Despite the defeat, Holly Springs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ella Brueckmann had 12 digs and two aces.
Sanderson's record is now 6-13. As for Holly Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Sanderson has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Holly Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sanderson suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Holly Springs in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
