Basketball Recap: Samad Naylor-Walters' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cesar E. Chavez over Westside

Cesar E. Chavez lost against Westside back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The contest between the Cesar E. Chavez Lobos and the Westside Wolves didn't end well, with the Cesar E. Chavez Lobos falling 55-38. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 907th, while the Wolves are ranked 219th).

Cesar E. Chavez's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samad Naylor-Walters, who posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Jason Tran was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.

Cesar E. Chavez has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Westside, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Cesar E. Chavez didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-38 victory against Wisdom on the 3rd. As for Westside, they and Heights will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Heights has won three straight at home, while Westside won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
