It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Southwood had no problem doing just that on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Wes-Del Warriors 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Warriors back in April, they had to take a 15-14 defeat.
Natalie Sutphin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 24 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Izzy Ashba, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Southwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Wes-Del, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.
Looking ahead, Southwood will square off against Northfield at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights are facing the Norsemen at the right time seeing as the Norsemen are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. Wes-Del does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
